The department of studio art at the University of North Texas is pleased to announce the solo exhibition of MFA candidate, Aunna Escobedo. Navigating the Waters will be on view from Thursday March 19th through Saturday March 21st.

Aunna Escobedo’s artwork investigates the human experience mirrored within our natural world. Navigating the Waters is a focused visual meditation of human consciousness in relation to water. Through observation and reflection, she culminates imagery that exists somewhere between representation and abstraction. Her studio practice embraces printmaking’s methodical qualities while integrating spontaneity, adapting the artworks as they grow organically through the exploration of unexpected forms. The series of monoprints stem from a creative process that is used for discovery, personal growth, mysticism, and experientialism.

Originally from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, she earned her BFA at Mount Mercy University in 2013. Aunna is a current MFA Candidate at the University of North Texas, Denton, Texas, and an awarded teaching fellow in the printmaking program. She has exhibited nationally including Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota, South Dakota, Ohio and Texas.

An artist talk will be held in the CVAD Cora Stafford Gallery on Wednesday March 18th from 5- 6pm. The reception will be held on Thursday March 19th from 5- 7pm. The gallery is located on the first floor of the College of Visual Arts and Design building at 1201 W. Mulberry St, Denton, TX, 76203. Food and drink will be provided at the reception. Both events are free and open to the public. The gallery will be open Thursday- Saturday from 1- 5pm for anyone not able to attend the reception.
