CADD Fund Application

Contemporary Art Dealers of Dallas celebrates creativity and community with the annual CADD FUND Sunday, March 29, 2020.  CADD FUND is a fun, fast-paced evening of sharing innovative ideas about potential artistic projects and will make possible a high-impact idea that needs the support of the DFW arts community.

The idea for CADD FUND was inspired by similar events throughout the United States. Over the past several years, numerous organizations have taken the basic premise of collecting a group of creative proposals, inviting the public to pay, and listen, and then democratically vote for a winner.

CADD FUND 2020 will be awarded to a current or previous B.A., B.F.A., M.A., M.F.A., or Ph.D. (in a related field) graduate or candidate from an institution within 100 miles of Dallas. Finalists will be selected by three esteemed jurors; Katherine Brodbeck – Senior Curator of Contemporary Art, Dallas Museum of Art; Kristen Gaylord – Assistant Curator of Photographs, Amon Carter Museum of American Art; and Frank Hettig – Director of Modern and Contemporary Art, Heritage Auctions.

During the event, the finalists will present short proposals for original and yet-to-be-realized new projects. Members of the audience will have an opportunity to ask questions and then the audience participants will vote for their favorite project. After a short recess to tally votes, the winner of CADD FUND 2020 will be announced!

Last year’s winner, Melissa Gamez-Herrera, will give a short presentation as well. She is a visual artist who investigates and grapples with issues of human rights, humanity, spirituality and identity through her artwork, primarily using photography as a medium. She earned a BA in Art and Art History from Colgate University in Hamilton, NY, and will earn an MFA in Photography at the University of North Texas in Denton, TX in 2020.

The CADD FUND is $2500 - $7500 + and beyond. Funds are raised by ticket sales and will go to the winner chosen by the audience. Tickets are $40 per person and will go on sale in early February. In an effort to make CADD FUND as accessible as possible for the students and artists, a portion of each ticket sold will be applied to administrative costs.

While CADD FUND is about raising much-needed cash, we hope that it will also be a forum to discuss the many other needs and resources that help make projects happen.
