Undergrad or Graduate-level Transfer course "Provencal Culture, from Myth to Media" taught by IAU College
Experience the grandeur of Provence through on-site study and the materiality and visual cartographic qualities of drawing and paint media. Engage in an innovative and experimentalapproach to the traditions of plein air painting while investigating and traversing the landscape of Provence. Whether traipsing through the pastoral scenery, reliving the past of Cézanne or Van Gogh, or meandering the streets and markets in the ancient city of Aix, you will gain appreciation for creating in a place with hundreds of years of vibrant cultural traditions. Focus on visiting key sites and representing the variegated landscape two-dimensionally in small-scaled sketchbooks and watercolor blocks. Use a variety of approaches to both drawing media and digital devices as resources to collect and construct images. Enjoy day trips to scenic Saint-Rémy de Provence and historical Avignon. Expand your knowledge and experience of the region with an additional three weeks in Aix-en-Provence taking your IAU transfer course which explores art, history, literature and cuisine of southern France.
