Robyn O’Neil was born in Nebraska in 1977 and currently lives in Los Angeles. Her work was included in the 2004 Whitney Biennial. O’Neil has been the featured artist in several solo museum exhibitions including a show of her most important works to date at The Des Moines Art Center in 2010, and a solo museum exhibition at the Contemporary Arts Museum in Houston, Texas, which traveled to the Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art, Cornell University, Ithaca, New York, and the Frye Art Museum, Seattle, Washington. Her work was also included in the highly anticipated exhibition“Dargerism” at The American Folk Art Museum, featuring Henry Darger’s influence on contemporary art.
She is the recipient of numerous grants and awards, including a Joan Mitchell Foundation Grant, an Artadia grant, and the Hunting Prize. She also received a grant from the Irish Film Board to make an animated short conceived of at Werner Herzog’s Rogue Film School. The film, WE, THE MASSES, won several awards at film festivals throughout the country. She was featured on PBS’s The Art Assignment hosted by curator Sarah Urist Green and author John Green. She also hosts the poetry & literature podcast “ME READING STUFF.”
Her work is represented by Susan Inglett Gallery in New York City, Talley Dunn Gallery in Dallas, and Western Exhibitions in Chicago.
