Summer Study Abroad in Japan (Papermaking & Printmaking)

The University of Kansas Department of Visual Art is offering a study abroad course to JAPAN in Summer 2014! This will be offered as a 6 credit hour course focusing on Japanese paper making and printmaking. . .
It will give students a unique opportunity to participate in two artist residencies, Awagami Paper Factory and Museum (http://www.awagami.com/) and Mokuhanga Innovation Laboratory, MI-LAB (http://www.endeavor.or.jp/mi-lab/news/index.html).  There will also be tours in Tokyo, Kyoto, Naoshima<http://www.nytimes.com/2011/08/28/travel/naoshima-japan-an-unlikely-island-as-art-attraction.html>, and we will be visiting traditional printer and carver's studios, contemporary Japanese artists' studios, visit many many contemporary galleries and museums, and even hike up Mt. Fuji!

It is open to all graduate and undergraduate students.  If you have a student that you think will benefit from this study abroad experience, please feel free to forward this email to them.
