VRC Reviews, part 5: Cat Snapp

The final installment in our series of student reviews from CVAD’s Visual Resources Collection:
A Review of Who Does She Think She Is? by Cat Snapp (Special Problems graduate student, fall 2010)

Who Does She Think She Is? trails the lives of five women artists while experts support the artist interviews with history and data relating to being both a professional and a woman. They discuss the struggles, stresses and joys of having several roles as a woman—artist, wife and mother. The documentary reveals the adversity women still face in our society. The role as domestic caregiver is undervalued while the desire to pursue a creative profession is viewed as selfish. While it seems that there is much to be accomplished to truly reach equality between the sexes, these five women have made their art with passion and vigor in spite of the other demands in their lives. The documentary is important for women and men alike to view, as it brings to light our present society and shows the possibilities for our future.
