Ro2 Art is proud to present Hereafter – the newest exhibition of prints, paintings and drawings from Adam Rowlett. Hereafter will open wednesday, April 16 and a closing reception will be held on Saturday, April 19 from 7 to 10pm. The exhibition will be held at Ro2 Art Downtown Projects Space at 110 N. Akard in downtown Dallas.
Bold, elemental forms and complex atmospheres tether chaos to order in Rowlett's new works, which explore the boundaries of rational and spiritual thinking through geometric abstraction. Influenced by the design and symmetry of religious icons, Rowlett refigures the visual vocabularies of science, mathematics, and biology to forge an alternative iconography. Woodcuts, lithographs, screenprints, as well as paintings and drawings show Rowlett's adaptability across varied media and scale, retaining the taut balance between restraint and disorder that makes each piece urgent, cryptic, and enthralling.
Adam Rowlett is currently in the final year of the graduate printmaking program at the University of North Texas in Denton. He received his BFA in printmaking from Truman State University in 2010 in his home state of Missouri. Since coming to north Texas in 2011, Rowlett has shown work in a number of galleries across the region. Recent exhibitions include shows at Ro2 Art, 500x Gallery, the McKinney Avenue Contemporary, and the Fort Worth Community Arts Center. This January, Rowlett was awarded the purchase prize in the 2013 Artist Book Competition from the UNT Libraries, and his work is currently on view in their special collections. Recently, Rowlett was awarded a scholarship for an interdisciplinary project in science in art funded by the University of North Texas. The Dallas Observer named Rowlett the best new artist in DFW in 2012.
