The Cliff Gallery at Mountain View College Presents Truths & Lies: Explorations in Human Nature, works in the printmaking and book arts traditions created by Laura H. Drapac and Cat Snapp, from April 17 – May 4, 2012.
Laura H. Drapac's current prints and drawings use pared-down figurative imagery to explore psychological complexities of identity. These images isolate narrative fragments that explore memory of personal experience and how that shapes self image and projected identity.
Cat Snapp's recent work explores the physical interaction with book and box structures in abstract sculptural form. The viewer is invited to touch and manipulate these hand-made compartments, pages, and pieces as a point of meditation on human interaction. The artist uses stitching, printed patterns, compulsive repetition of shapes, and varied textural surfaces as one would explore automatic drawing to search emotions, desires and fears about one's own personal relationships.
Laura H. Drapac is currently a MFA candidate in Printmaking at the University of North Texas, where she also teaches drawing and printmaking. She holds a BFA in printmaking and graphic design from Ohio University (Athens, Ohio). Her recent work has been exhibited in Florida, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Texas.
