A Review of All About Prints by Kristen Thompson (Beginning Etching student, fall 2010)
All About Prints takes the viewer on a vivid tour of the history and techniques of printmaking from the various and varied perspectives of collectors, enthusiasts, historians, and the artists and printers themselves. Many of those interviewed share the conviction that in printmaking the finished product is often in some ways secondary to the process of producing the “perfect print,” that in fact, the collaborative effort is as much an art form as the end result. The film does well to show the many ways in which designers and print makers have worked together to continually update and innovate within the medium contextually while using many of the same basic tools and techniques that artists and artisans have employed for centuries.
