A Review of Printmaker: Artist Interviews by Ryan Piper (Beginning Etching student, fall 2010)
In Printmaker, Manson Kennedy interviews seven printmakers involved in a variety of different printing techniques. While the film is only thirty minutes long, it explores a wealth of knowledge, disclosing the secrets behind color and black and white woodcut, intaglio, mixed media, lithography, and screen printing. Spending about four minutes with each artist, Kennedy documents an expedited timeline of each process. For those already familiar with the printing process, this timeline is appropriate and lends itself well to creative brainstorming and new ideas. However, those with minimal knowledge of printmaking may find themselves lost by the pace of the film. Overall, the film is an excellent overview of the art of printmaking.
